Ordinarily, the beginning of the summer would be the time when we begin removing the troublesome Himalayan Balsam from all across the the stream side, but of course, due to COVID-19, we were unable to commence with this work.
When we resumed the group on the 11th July, were only able to pull the Balsam for another week before the seeds would drop and spread around the stream. We worked tirelessly for two sessions removing as much as possible and thankfully, sessions on 11/07/20 and 18/07/20 saw us managing to clear 99% on the main land.
As that session came to a close we saw how much still had to be done both sides of the bridge, so thankfully one final Balsam session was had days later on 22/07/20. This time, we only had two volunteers working this day, the team leader, Dee and one of our volunteers, Alex. We didn't expect to get half the Balsam pulled up than we did, but amazingly we managed to clear the majority if not all of the Balsam both sides of the bridge.
We are pleased to say that we managed to get what would have been 8-9 weeks of solid work completed in three sessions. A massive thank you to our volunteers for their continued hard work and dedication on keeping the stream clear. Another enormous thank you to the public and the neighbours by the stream for your continued support.
